From Stadium To Studio

When it opened in 1965 the Harris County Domed Stadium was nicknamed the "Eighth Wonder of the World."

But soon after, it was simply known as the Astrodome, the world’s first indoor air-conditioned sports stadium. With a diameter of 710 feet (216.4 m) and the ceiling height at 208 feet (63.4 m) above the playing surface, the Astrodome was host to major league baseball, professional football, soccer, circuses, auto thrill shows, rock concerts, and the renowned Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

From 1965 to the year 2000, this historic building entertained millions in a endless variety of legendary performances, from Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope, to Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones.

Now it stands ready to provide yet more entertainment as part of a multi-billion dollar world-wide industry.
